Welcome

Sean McCann

Welcome to Light Up Glasgow's Skyline, a new Website hosting my audio, visual and literary projects.

As a writer, film maker and musician I am involved in various arts projects and this Website allows me to host all my content on one easily accessible site.

About me

After studying music at North Glasgow College in the early nineties I moved to London to continue my studies at the University Of Westminster via a brief dalliance with working in television. I lived, worked and played in London for almost 5 years, the highlights of which revolved around playing in pop/punk band Scuba Dog. After we recorded our debut album 'Scuba Dog Follow Through' I moved back to Glasgow and continued to play music in post rock outfit Escobar 9, along with performing as a solo artist in The Scifisoul before a final brief stint as guitarist in shoegaze band The Spirals

Although music and performing has always been a huge part of my life it was the creative side which appealed to me the most. Writing songs, producing the finishing touches and collaborating with other talented artists is what drives and inspires me. I stopped playing live a few years back and decided I wanted to focus on producing and writing and it was around this time my friend Halina Rifai started the Glasgow PodcART project. Glasgow PodcART was set up as a tool to highlight lesser known or unsigned artists and musicians. It has done this through live shows, exhibitions and a weekly podcast. I produced and recorded the first 59 podcasts for Glasgow PodcART, that's around 590 songs!!  I also recorded intimate live session's for artists such as Jill Leighton, Panda Su, Beerjacket, Paul McGranaghan, Ambulances, Julia Doogan and rockers Make Sparks and Little Yellow Ukuleles. The monthly live session in the 13th Note was a project I produced for Glasgow PodcART, the majority of which I also mixed, edited and filmed. This year I produced podcasts for the Glasgow International Film Festival and one of my personal highlights was interviewing Mark Kermode for an exclusive podcast.

This brings me up to the present day. I currently contribute film reviews for Subtitled, an incredible Website for lovers of foreign language movies. I also produce podcasts for Tramway, the brilliant Glasgow arts and theatre space. Most recently I produced the podcast for the Tramway's Glasgow International Festival exhibitions which were an incredible success. I am currently working closely with Words Per Minute producing podcasts and videos of their monthly live event and Mix Up Mayhem, a new live music event in Glasgow where everything is done just that little bit different!

I hope you enjoy the Website and I welcome any comments you have. I am always looking for new exciting projects and my services are for hire so please contact me for anything you think I can help with.

Many thanks, Sean

Peenko Presents: The Tea Party

Peenko presents was a roaring success at the Tea Party's second event in the Hidden Lane Cafe. Paul Carlin's side project got the evening off to a great start with their live debut, and all the guests were roundly appreciative of the glorious Burnt Islands set of beautiful melancholy. Here is Burnt Islands set in full, with Ghost Pants to follow very shortly!

Words Per Minute

Posted by Sean McCann 12/01/2011

Words Per Minute 8 was a roaring success at the Arches on Sunday, Michael Cassidy was my personal favourite. What a voice that boy has. I have an amazing recording that i will be publishing before the end of January. Claire Askew also read some of the best poetry i have heard in years and all in I reckon this was the best WPM event yet, certainly the best attended.

Anyway, for those who  missed out here is the podcast from WPM5 featuring a brilliantly, eerie story by Kirsty Neary (wait till you see the video) and Kirsty Logans quite magnificent 'The Rental Heart'.

The Ballad Of Alex K - audio/visual sketches

Posted by Sean McCann 16/12/2010

I have got into the habit of recording all our rehearsals just in case we come across a moment of genius! I decided to use some of the recordings to make audio and visual sketches with a view to getting some ideas on board in preparation for recording, and creating visuals for our live shows next year.

This is the first sketch I produced; I was paying particular attention to the lyrics regarding heart beats. I wanted the colours to reflect the heart beating and pulsing. I also wanted a visual representation of the sea; hues of blue and green melt into the reds in time to the music. This is something I want our live visuals to reflect.

I also manipulated one of Alex's vocal lines near the start of the song, this is something I will definitely be doing more of by using live samples and a Kaoss Pad during our shows.
